OCTOBER 1, 1999--Muted turquoise. Carnelian. The pink found inside conch shells. "My colors are always very symbolic," Skuodas says. Because her paintings deal with the spirit, or notions of the spirit--"pathos turned into ethos" turned into transcendence--they "are about transparency. They have that immateriality. My paintings are so thin, there's so little paint on them . . . they don't shout. They're quiet. You have to come to them." The works identified by titles are those in the Fisher Hall exhibit. Unidentified works are other recent paintings. |
