Greenhouse Giveaway: Plants Move Over for New Science Center
Photographs by Linda Grashoff

The monstera deliciosa philodendron is also rooted in the soil underneath the greenhouse and cannot be moved. The plant propagates easily from cuttings, however, so the new greenhouse will have clones of this gigantic plant. In the new greenhouse--on the roof of the new biology area--all the plants will be in containers.

David Benzing, Danforth Professor of Biology, checks one of the greenhouse pools for cambumba, a water plant that will move to the temporary greenhouse.

At least one specimen of each of the greenhouse bromeliads is going over to the temporary greenhouse and eventually to the new one. Benzing collected the big bromeliad in Venezuela.
