APRIL 21, 1999--A labor-union leader, an inventor of the heart-lung machine, and a historian will be among those honored at the 166th commencement exercises of Oberlin College, to be held Monday, May 31. John Sweeney, president of the AFL-CIO, will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree and will deliver the commencement address. The other honorary degree recipients this year will be Frederick Cross '42 and Robert Kingdon '49. Marian Baum will receive the Award for Distinguished Service to the Community, and Elaine Amacker Bridges '59 will receive the Alumni Medal. |
