APRIL 25, 2002--Recently digital video and computer artist Vibeke Sorensen visited Oberlin. Sorensen, who teaches at the University of Southern California, works in the field of new media. During her visit, she sat down with Elizabeth Weinstein '02 to talk about her work. Elizabeth Weinstein: What brings you to Oberlin? What are you planning to talk about while you are here? Vibeke Sorensen: Well, Rian Brown, assistant professor of new media, invited me to give a talk about my work. What I am going to talk about is the philosophy of how I approach working with technology and why Ive picked this media. Basically, my work went from photography to film to video to computer graphics to interactive and network work, and now I am going back to architecture, or interactive architectural installation. My work now involves integrating memory and the experience of the contemporary social world with technology to show the evolution of technology and how the artist can catalyze the humanistic development of technology.
