International Web Site Posts Photo of Lewis Center for Environmental Studies

By Linda Grashoff

JANUARY 31, 2001--A web site that describes itself as "an international media company and online services marketplace focused on the global economy"— eCountries—features a profile of William McDonough, architect of Oberlin's Lewis Center for Environmental Studies, mention of the building, and a photo of the architect's model.

The article, "William McDonough," is part of the publication's coverage of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland.

In describing the Lewis Center the profile mistakenly notes that "An environmental studies building at Oberlin College is a 'net energy exporter,' producing more energy than it consumes." The eCountries piece may have misinterpreted the information on McDonough's own web site, which says the building is "designed to be a net exporter of energy" (emphasis added). The building is not yet a net energy exporter, though it has the potential to become so.
