The Joy of Working with Dolphins

Discovering an Ecosystem through Dolphins

Clapp fell in love with dolphins about 10 years ago.

"It was my Mom's dream to swim with dolphins for her 50th birthday," he says. "We went to a research institute in the Florida Keys. I was so nervous. Usually they tell you to keep your hands to the side because sea animals don't have arms so arms are scary for them. Wild dolphins are very big--it's like playing with lions. But one dolphin offered its dorsal fin to me, which is a sign of trust and playfulness. I got to hold on to the dorsal fin as she dragged me around."
