South Hall's Bookstore is Open for Business

By Sue Kropp

JANUARY 13, 2000--The new South Hall bookstore is open for business, and students returning to campus will be able to buy their textbooks and other course-related materials from three familiar faces. Karen Long, Jan Eastman, and Nick Ivancic (former employees at the Co-op Bookstore) have moved in to the old dining area of South Hall and set up a temporary bookstore for the spring semester's book rush.

Long has been working with Follett, a company that sells new and used textbooks, to purchase materials for next semester. The short-term arrangement has been successful, with the first shipment of books arriving this past Tuesday.

"I have 200% confidence in our arrangement with Follett," says Long. "I'm convinced that everything will work out for the coming semester."

Long and Eastman stress that the temporary South Hall bookstore is not a mini Co-op. Students will be able to buy textbooks and workbooks, or chose from a limited selection of pens, legal pads, and spiral notebooks. The store will not sell Oberlin College merchandise, but instead will focus on classroom necessities.

"You'll be able to walk out of here with a pen and a notebook," says Long, "but we're too limited in our space to offer other merchandise."

The bookstore is open from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M., Monday through Friday, through the end of January. However, Long and Eastman are available to help professors place book orders or answer questions from 9 A.M. until 5 P.M. The store is accessible on the south side of the building only; patrons cannot enter through the South Hall dormitory.

Long and Eastman can be reached at (440) 775-8561 or by their personal e-mail accounts.
