Catalog description:
Designed to emphasize the development and refinement of baton and rehearsal technique, score preparation, and interpretation. Bowing styles, transpositions, and score analysis are included in the orchestral score study. Applied Study 260 is prerequisite to 261.

Objectives: After completing this course, students will be able to:
1. complete a score preparation including harmonic and form analysis, translation of any foreign terms, and style requirements.
2. reduce the full instrumental score to keyboard for preparation to conduct.
3. elicit desired musical results through effective rehearsal techniques.
4. demonstrate effective conducting gestures.

Attendance policy:
The class serves as the laboratory group for each conducting student. Therefore, regular and punctual attendance is important for all sessions. When illness prohibits class attendance, the instructor should be informed. After two unexcused absences the student's total grade will be lowered a letter for each absence following. Absolutely no cuts are permitted on days when the mid-semester and final sessions are scheduled: March 23 and 25 (class time), and the last week.
