Welcome to MusicPlay!!

MusicPlay is designed:

  • to engage children (ages 3-5) in developmentally-appropriate musical activities,
  • to permit parents to observe their children function musically in a group setting and to participate in the music education of their children in MusicPlay and at home.
  • to offer an on-campus laboratory setting for students in music education,
  • to provide a professional-development setting for the director and other interested educators (frequently there are observers),

Children participate weekly in a variety of musical activities--singing, moving, listening, playing, describing or analyzing, creating--each designed, prepared, and implemented by a music education major or the Director, Dr. Peggy Bennett.

Each weekly experience begins with children entering the room and picking up name tags. On cue, all find seats "in the circle" for the opening songs signaling the start of the session. A series of activities follows, each involving the children actively in one or more musical behaviors with a song, a chant, or a piece organized around a topic or music concept. A good-bye song is the cue to find your "grown-up" for the trip home.
