Helping Hands Fund

Selection Criteria:
1.) Low-income, or subject to significant financial need.

2.) An active organizer within a community served by the Multicultural Resource Center.*

Selection Process:
Professors will informally nominate award candidates, or financially qualified candidate list will be provided by Oberlin Financial Aid Office. Candidates are narrowed down by the MRC Community Coordinators, who work closest with the student body. After informal interviews, the community coordinators will select the awardee(s) by consensus. Due to target students’ generally heavy commitments, required essays will not be involved. Applicant paperwork will be involved as relates to documenting expenses to which scholarship funds may apply. In the case of unresolved disagreement over recipient selection, the MRC Director will serve as tie-breaker in the selection process.

* Definition of “communities served by the MulticulturalResourceCenter” - African/Black/Caribbean Diaspora, Arab, Asian and Pacific Islander Diaspora, Indigenous/Native American, Latina/o, and LGBTQ communities. Also students of disabled, differential health, immigrant or non-naturalized citizenship status, and students subject to gender or religious oppression who organize around these identities.
