Services & Information for Students

Research Help

Ask a Librarian! No question is too big or too small. We offer assistance in person, by phone, email, IM, and via ChatRef.

Schedule a research appointment with a reference librarian. We can help you plan a search strategy, find books, articles, quality web sites, and more resources for your tough research projects.

Consult a subject research guide if you need help getting started right away.

Citation Help

See the Citation Guides and Style Manuals section of the Reference Sources page for call numbers and links to style manuals and web sites.

Learn more about citation tools RefWorks and Zotero.

Borrowing from Oberlin

Books circulate for the entire semester; other materials, such as periodicals, videos, circulate for shorter periods of time.

See our borrowing policies for more information about loan periods, fines, etc.

Renewing Library Materials

View your library record in OBIS to see what is checked out to you, when it is due, and to request a renewal. Your record will also indicate if you have any unpaid fines.

Borrowing from OhioLINK & Other Libraries

Borrowing books, recordings, videos, etc., not owned by Oberlin (or not currently available at Oberlin) directly through the OhioLINK library catalog is quick and easy; most items arrive within three business days.

See the OhioLINK Borrowing Policies for information about requesting items, load periods, fines, etc.

Renewing OhioLINK Materials

View your library record in OBIS to see what is checked out to you, when it is due, and to request a renewal. Your record will also indicate if you have any unpaid fines.

Interlibrary Loan

If you cannot find what you need at Oberlin or through OhioLINK, use the Interlibrary Loan service. We will borrow the item from another library on your behalf. The Interlibrary Loan service also provides photocopies of specific articles from journals that Oberlin does not own or provide electronic access to.

Reserve

Reserve items are required or recommended readings shared by all members of a class. Print and video reserve materials are listed in OBIS by course and by professor.

Electronic materials are available via ERes.

Find out more about reserve materials and policies and read the Student Reserve FAQ.

Honors

The Library can help with all stages of your honors project, from start to finish.

Open Access to Research

The Right to Research Coalition encourages students to advocate for open access to research.
