Circulation Policies
Circulation policies in the science library differ only in a few respects from borrowing policies in the other campus libraries:
- Science periodicals
or journals (all bound volumes and current, unbound issues) may be
borrowed by college students and employees only. Others are welcome
to read and photocopy journals onsite. The loan period is essentially
the same as that for most reserve materials
: three hours during the day, with overnight loans beginning two hours
before closing each day. Journals borrowed overnight are due within
one hour of opening the next business day. Fines for overdue
science periodicals are $1.00 per hour.
An exception to this 3-hour loan period is made for volumes that have been sent to storage (primarily those periodicals published before 1960 and all volumes of canceled titles). Periodicals from storage may be borrowed for up to one week.
- Some textbooks
have a 20-day loan period (rather than the usual loan period of the
entire semester for Oberlin College students and employees). This
shorter loan period is assigned to selected materials that are routinely
requested for reserve or are generally in high demand.
