Course Integrated Instruction
Librarians at Oberlin College are eager to support the research needs of your courses, and to work with you to insure that students receive effective information literacy instruction. Our program of course-integrated instruction is designed to fit into the framework of your course
In addition to giving classroom presentations and facilitating hands-on lab sessions, we are available to work with you as you develop and revise courses, and to help with the design of assignments that address information literacy.
Course-Integrated Instruction provides students with:- Information tailored to particular course projects and assignments
- Exposure to discipline-specific research tools and methodologies
- Hands-on experience with relevant electronic resources
- Exposure to information literacy concepts that will prove helpful for their coursework at Oberlin and beyond
Instruction sessions typically cover issues such as the critical evaluation of web sources, finding scholarly materials, developing effective search strategies, and issues relating to plagiarism (the importance of proper citation, etc.).
If you are interested in requesting a library instruction session, or would like to discuss anything relating to information literacy for your courses, please contact any of the librarians listed below. You may also request a session online . Although we are often able to accommodate late requests, advanced planning time of at least 2 weeks is appreciated.
