Connect from Off Campus
Proxy Server Authentication
If you use links to research resources from OBIS, the Library's web site, or our list of databases you should be automatically asked to provide your name and barcode number (on the back of your OCID) to gain access.
If you are not automatically prompted to enter your name and barcode you can authenticate with Oberlin College Proxy Server or with OhioLINK.
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Download the CIT's VPN software to your computer. When you run the VPN program all of your network activity is funneled through a secure server and you will be recognized as an Oberlin College user and will not be asked to log in to resources.
Problems?
If you encounter problems accessing a database or journal, follow these steps:- Go to http://www.ohiolink.edu/cgi-bin/whereami.pl
- Copy and paste the information about your browser and IP address into an email message to Alan.Boyd@oberlin.edu
- Include the name of the database and the date and time you experienced the problem
- Describe or copy and paste any error messages you received while trying to access the database
Attention Students
Off campus access to online databases and electronic journals is restricted to current students. During academic leaves (including enrolled-not-in-residence programs) and over the summer, student privileges are modified to allow uninterrupted access to online resources.Continuing students who find that their access is unexpectedly restricted should file a request to update their record.
We regret that students who are graduated, withdrawn, or on personal leave cannot be authorized for remote access.
Note: Off campus RefWorks users (including graduated students) experiencing login problems should contact reference@oberlin.edu or call 440-775-5031.
