Lizzie Bryant

Lizzie Young Bryant, a food-service cook for 18 years, died 17 April. She was 67 years old.

Born 12 December 1927, she came to work for the college in September 1968 and retired in 1987. Her survivors include nine children, 20 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and her mother. Her husband, John, died in 1989.

The Reverend Fred L. Steen conducted funeral services 20 April at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Burial was in Westwood Cemetery.

Kathryn Hopwood

Emerita Trustee Kathryn Louise Hopwood died in Columbus 9 April. She was 86 years old. She was an alumni-elected trustee from 1956 to 1968 and an active honorary trustee in the early 1980s.

Born 25 August 1908 in Jefferson, Ohio, she received the BA (1930) and the MA (1940) degrees in English from Oberlin and the PhD (1953) in psychology from the Ohio State University. In 1970 Oberlin College awarded her the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. At Ohio State she was instructor and assistant professor of psychology and assistant and associate dean of women. At Hunter College she was professor of psychology, dean of students, and chair of the department of counseling and student development. Recently she was adjunct professor of psychology at Ohio State and a visiting scholar on counseling older adults. She wrote numerous articles for professional journals, held office in several professional organizations, and was listed in Who's Who of American Women and American Men of Science. A memorial service was held 1 May at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Upper Arlington, Ohio. Friends may make memorial contributions to the Ohio State University development fund.
