Moffett dedication

At a dedication ceremony Saturday, Room 050 in Mudd became the William Andrew Moffett Auditorium in honor of Oberlin's former director of libraries. Members of Moffett's family were present for the occasion, including his wife Deborah Hoover Moffett (center) and his children, Pamela Moffett Padley (left), Charles Henry Buckers Moffett, Stephanie Moffett Hynds, and William Andrew Moffett, Jr.

Moffett, who was Azariah Smith Root director of libraries from 1979 to 1990, died in February. The photograph of him on the north wall of the auditorium was taken by director of audiovisual services Frederick Zwegat shortly before Moffett left Oberlin to become director of the Huntington Library. The photograph also appears on bookplates in books bought with the Moffett endowed acquisitions fund. "The pose is similar to that of the portrait of Azariah Smith Root hanging in the library administrative offices," says Moffett's successor Ray English, "reflecting Bill's admiration for Root."
