The library seeks $500,000 in both current use and endowed discretionary funds.
In the current era of rapid technological change, the library must engage in an ongoing process of reinventing itself in order to maintain its effectiveness. Discretionary funding is often needed to address the library’s highest priority needs, including those that arise in relatively short timeframes. Such funding is often critical in initiating important projects that must first be studied to determine their scope and costs before full implementation.
An example is the library’s popular Academic Commons, which brings together various student support services in a technologically rich environment that also fosters social interaction along academic lines. Initial planning for the project was made possible through a generous gift of discretionary funds from Mimi Halpern '60.
