Symposium on the Future of the Book
On Saturday, April 4 the Oberlin College Library will host a one-day Symposium on the Future of the Book under the auspices of the Harold Jantz Memorial Lectureship.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will explore a variety of developments that are emerging – or are likely to emerge – as more and more books transition from print to electronic formats and become available through networked technologies. Topics to be covered include considerations related to readers and reading devices, authorship and peer review, teaching and learning, research and scholarship, academic and research libraries, publishing and book markets, and mass digitization of older books.
Speakers
The outside presenters are James Neal, University Librarian at Columbia University; Robert Stein, Executive Director of the Institute for the Future of the Book; and Niko Pfund, Vice President and Academic Publisher for Oxford University Press USA.
The Oberlin faculty panelists are Julia
