The Diversity Committee of the Oberlin College
Library is strongly committed to actively contributing to
the mission of academic excellence. It works towards the realization
of the mission of the College and the Library in its promotion
and fostering of diversity throughout all areas of the library
system.
The Diversity Committee recognizes diversity
as a constantly changing concept. It is purposefully defined
broadly as encompassing such individual and group differences
as race, gender, ethnicity, belief, religion, national origin,
sexual orientation, age, education, marital status, physical
and communicative ability, points of view, and learning styles.
Goals

The Diversity Committee of the Oberlin College
Library strives to increase diversity in staffing, collections
and services. It recognizes the promotion of diversity as
a continuing educational process for the library. Its goals
are as follows:
- Staffing: to increase diversity of our library
staff and to support efforts to increase diversity in
the library profession;
- Sensitivity: to increase staff awareness of diversity
and effectiveness in fostering a positive working environment
for all staff;
- Services: to increase outreach to diverse groups
on campus and make improvements in services we make available
to all library users;
- Collections: to increase diversity of resources
and address collection development issues in areas that
need effort and improvement.
