    Mahler Seven

According to Donald Mitchell (in the commentary accompanying this facsimile edition), Gustav Mahler described his seventh symphony after its completion in 1908 as his “best work” and “preponderantly cheerful.”  The illustration of the published score cover (see above) was designed by stage designer and frequent collaborator with Mahler at the Vienna Hofoper, Alfred Roller.

Gustav Mahler, 1860-1911.
