Collection Development

Development of library collections at Oberlin is a collaborative effort involving librarians, faculty members, and students. The Collection Development Librarian coordinates the work of liaison librarians.

Liaison Librarians

Liaison librarians collaborate with faculty in assigned departments and programs on materials selection, acquisitions budget management, deselection of materials, evaluation of gifts, and other collection management issues. Liaison librarians are also involved in the selection of materials.

Ordering Materials for our Collections

Faculty may use these forms to submit orders to the appropriate liaison librarian:

Book Order Form (also for scores, etc.)
Video Order Form
Sound Recording Order Form

Students and others may recommend purchases using the suggestion form in OBIS.

Approval Plans

The Library has a number of approval plans in place that make it possible for us to receive current imprints in a timely manner. We contract with vendors to ship upon publication books that match our specified publisher and subject criteria.

Some of the vendors with whom we have approval plans include: YBP, Harrasowitz, Aux Amateurs des Livres, IberBook/Puvill, and WorldWide.

For more information about our approval plans contact the Collection Development Librarian or your liaison librarian.
