Requesting a Search
If you are not able to find an item on the shelf and OBIS indicates that the status is AVAILABLE, you may use the REQUEST option in OBIS to trigger a staff search for the item.
Library Stacks
If the location for the item is LIBRARY STACKS and the status is AVAILABLE and you are not able to find the item in the most likely library (i.e. in the Main Library for humanities and social sciences items, or in one of the branch libraries for art, music, or science items) it may be in storage.
Use the REQUEST option in OBIS to place a retrieval request.
Why does OBIS say Library Stacks instead of Storage?
These are items that have never circulated (or been otherwise updated by library staff) since we implemented the OBIS catalog in 1984. Correcting location information on OBIS is an ongoing effort.
