Close-up on books

The move from the perspective of a book.

Empty shelves

All shelving on the south side of the library had to be emptied before construction could start.

Dismantled gate

The book was removed and the gate dismantled so equipment and materials could arrive.

Large table moved

Furniture had to be moved out of the way as much as possible.

Aisle of empty shelves

Dismantling old shelving

The old shelving had to be removed....

...and stored somewhere.

No carpet

The carpet was removed so a platform could be built.

Platform number one

Once the plywood platform was built the rails were laid. Compact shelving rolls on rails, so they have to be very strong and aligned precisely.

Lone ladder

Next the carriages are mounted on the rails.

Installed carriages

Rails hold carriages. Each carriage supports one range of shelving.

Installed shelving

Once in place on the carriage, the shelving can roll along the rails.

Testing the new system

Once the system is online it must be tested and adjusted.
