Services, Staffing, Management Subcommittee Meeting Minutes

April 26, 2006

Present: Jane Boomer, Albert Borroni, Ray English, Allison Gallaher, Jessica Grim, Cindy Murnan, Kathryn Stuart, Fred Zwegat

1. Committee Charge.

   The committee’s charge as outlined in the “ACPlanning” document was reviewed.

2. Updates.

   Ray announced that Leo Evans has been named the project coordinator, and that work to find a project architect is proceeding.

   Jessica summarized the work that the Constituent Input Subcommittee has been engaged in– namely the student survey (over 1000 respondents), and the student focus groups occurring this week. An analysis of the survey and focus group results is forthcoming from the CI group.

3. Communication.

   The primary communication vehicle for our group will be the Academic Commons site on Blackboard, where some AC documents and committee minutes have already been added. Albert will make sure everyone in the group has an account and is comfortable accessing Blackboard.

   We discussed the way in which the AC project might be brought to attention of the faculty as a whole; it was decided that a brief presentation at the May College Faculty meeting would be a good way to do this. Ray will look into getting on the agenda for that.

   The creation of a public website about the AC is being looked into. [update: a site has been created... and you're here!]

4. Survey of Current Services.

   There was discussion about which services should be included in this overview of current services. It was generally felt that erring on the side of inclusion was the way to go – and that we can take things OFF the table as we progress if logic/discussion dictate.

   Jessica will send a simple Excel template to group members, who will fill in information from their areas.

5. Survey of Other Commons’.

   Jane, Cindy, and Jessica will work on compiling a selective list of information/academic/learning commons’ at other institutions.

6. Future Meetings.

   The committee will meet again on June 1, 10:00 a.m., Thornton.
