Services, Staffing, and Management Subcommittee
Membership: Jessica Grim, Cynthia Murnan, Albert Borroni, Allison Gallaher, Fred Zwegat, Jane Boomer, Kathryn Stuart.
This subcommittee will survey existing services and make recommendations to the planning committee regarding services that will be included in the Academic Commons, including the manner in which they will be provided, managed, and coordinated. Its work will include the following:
- Survey the full range of services now provided separately that could be made available through the Academic Commons. This will include all Main Library public services, media services, CIT client services, and student learning support services. The survey will produce information on who provides the services, where and when they are now provided, and who uses them. The subcommittee will also consider new services that are not currently available, such as digital software support, peer academic advising, and a centralized information desk for the campus.
- Recommend services to be included in Academic Commons, including who will provide services and how and where they will be provided. Consider level of staff needed for various services (A&PS/AA/student staff) as well as advantages and disadvantages of different service models (same service point for reference, technology, media, and learning support versus separate service points). Recommend extent to which services should be “merged” in terms of staffing.
- Make recommendations relating to training and orientation of staff that will provide Academic Commons services. If merged services are recommended, include recommendations on what training should be provided to facilitate different work “cultures” coming together.
- Propose a management and coordination structure for the Academic Commons.
- Request information and feedback from Constituent Input Subcommittee.
- Provide information to help inform the work of Mudd Space Subcommittee.
- Survey and report on merged and coordinated services at other institutions as useful (what makes them successful, etc.); Colorado, Bucknell, Trinity, others.
