The Mudd Space Subcommittee
Membership: Alan Boyd, John Bucher, Cynthia Comer, Ray English, Allison Gallaher.
This subcommittee will consider the design and use of space in Mudd Center as it relates to the Academic Commons project. The full Main Level plan may include group study rooms; CIT/Library instruction lab; single-use work areas with computers; reference collection; current periodicals collection; new books & faculty / student publication display / browsing area; combined circulation and reserve area; AV collection space; media technology area; unified reference, technology help, and information desk; and space for learning support services and peer advising. The subcommittee’s work will focus primarily on the Main and A Levels and will address the following:
- Communicate with Library subgroups working on projects to create space for the Academic Commons. These projects include: 1) Dewey Catalog removal, 2) government documents collection relocation, 3) reference collection reduction, and 4) JSTOR weeding project.
- Make recommendations for short-term (summer ’06) steps that transition to the Academic Commons, such as group study tables, and additional computers and printers.
- Work with the Services, Staffing, and Management Subcommittee to create a plan for overall use and functionality of Main and A Levels of Mudd that is in line with the goals of the Academic Commons.
- Define networking, equipment, and furniture needs.
