Constituent Input Subcommittee Meeting Minutes

Monday 4-10-06, Thornton

Present: Haipeng Li, Albert Borroni, Jessica Grim, Shozo Kawaguchi, Scott Saluga.

Agenda for this meeting:

  1. survey questions
  2. focus groups
  3. timeline for both

We started with the discussion of survey questions, focusing on the draft document that Haipeng and Jessica worked on and sent out last week. Discussions centered around the types of questions that should be included and the order of them listed in the survey. Some of the questions are two-tiered questions, that is, if you choose a certain answer, it takes you to the next question. The survey instrument we are using called, SurveyMonkey, will help with this type of questions. Jessica showed our draft in SurveyMonkey to give people an idea of what it is like.

After some discussions, we decided to reverse the current order of questions. We will go with the abstract questions (learning activities questions) first, then service questions, and finally the café. Jessica and Haipeng will work on the revision and send them out either today or tomorrow for review.

We had a discussion of the document that Shozo sent out on focus groups. Some of the ideas to attract students quickly are great. Some thought the idea of doing the sessions in Wilder is also good since it is away from the library. We decided that we will do roughly 4 or 5 sessions. Shozo volunteered, and so did Jessica. Ami was also suggested to be a good person to do this. Scott will check with her to see what her schedules look like and is she is willing.

The tentative timeline for the focus group session will range from April 20-April 28. The times for the four suggested sessions are:

Noon-1:00 pm
12:20-1:20 pm
4:30-5:30 pm
7:00-8:00 pm

There was also discussion on maybe doing some of the sessions here in Mudd. Albert suggested that Room 456 would be a good location since it is equipped with recording devices. Haipeng will check with Fred to see if that room will be available during those times.
