The Performing Arts Collection is a part of the Special Collections
department in the University of California, Santa Barbara Library.
The Library is a research library with 2.6 million volumes and
numerous special collections. The Special Collection department
maintains the collections of rare books and manuscript/archival
material. The Performing Arts Collection has one of the largest
sound archives in the US, with extensive holdings of 78 rpm discs
and cylinder recordings. It also houses manuscript collections
relating to music, theater and the performing arts.
The internship could be any of a number of projects, depending
on the student's interests. Possibilities include digitizing original
music manuscripts for the web, processing an archival collection,
or processing a sound recording collection, including making preservation
copies.
Interest in and desire to gain experience working in a library/archive
dealing with materials related to music or historic sound recordings.
