Feldman Children's Library Internship Opportunity (January 2003)

Feldman Children's Library

Alumni Sponsor: Heidi Estrin, OC'89

"The Feldman Children's Library is located at Congregation B'nai Israel, a Reform Jewish synagogue. The library was established about 10 years ago, and it serves the preschool and the religious school. Both schools are very large, with several hundred students enrolled. The library has approximately 5000 volumes, including a secular preschool collection, a bibliotherapy section, a teacher resource center, and a Judaic collection for preschool through high school.Over 20 library story times are held each week for the preschool (ages 2-5).

The best intern for this library would be someone who is interested in serving children and/or someone interested in Judaica librarianship. I can offer the opportunity to plan and perform storytimes, to learn about collection development, and to gain experience with writing book reviews. I can also arrange for experiences in other local libraries (definitely Judaic, and probably public). If a research component is desired, I'm sure we can find a useful topic to explore, and if it turns out to be Judaic, we may be able to get it published in the Association of Jewish Libraries'
newsletter."

Location: Boca Raton, FL
