Invitation to All Library Staff to Submit Summer Project Proposals

Re: Project Proposals
The IMLS Curriculum & Projects Committee invites you to develop
project proposals for this summer and fall. As you may be aware,
each of our six IMLS Library Diversity students will be working
with us full-time for eight weeks in the summer. We have built
flexibility into the schedule so that students can fit their time
into various schedule configurations. This means that projects
may begin as early as June and extend through the first part of
August. Students may work full-time during some periods and part-time
during others. Each student will select one or more projects to
work on over the summer.
Our goal is to have a wide array of projects for students to
choose from. We would like to see represented a broad selection
of topics that cut across different areas of librarianship. This
is a great opportunity for the students to pursue avenues of particular
personal interest, be exposed to new areas of librarianship, learn
new skills, and work in a close mentoring relationship with one
or more members of the library staff. Projects should enhance
students' understanding of the profession and will undoubtedly
benefit the library as well. Projects are not intended to substitute
for regular student summer positions. Depending on the number
of project proposals received, some projects may not be selected
this summer.
We have developed some guidelines
that provide an idea of the kinds of projects that are appropriate.
Please contact Haipeng
or Heather if you
wish to discuss your project idea before completing the proposal
form. We look forward to receiving your proposals in the very
near future! Thank you in advance for your contribution to the
success of the IMLS Diversity Intern program.
Project proposals are due on Wednesday, May 8.
Please sumbit proposals to Haipeng Li or Heather Smith.
