Student Friends of the Library

Mentors: Ray English

Department: Administration

Aspects of Librarianship related to the project: Fund raising and Public Relations

Number of openings: 1 or 2

Estimated length of the project: Summer and Fall

Hours per day: 1-2 hours per day

Dates available: July 1 through Fall semester

Additional comments: The amount of time involved in the project is flexible and it depends largely upon the overall project plan that is developed.

Description: This project will involve planning and implementing increased student participation in the Friends of the Library. The participants will do some research on Friends of the Library groups at other colleges and universities, including those that have been successful in recruiting student members, and they will document what has been done at Oberlin to recruit student members of the Friends. Working from that research and the ideas that came out of a student focus group on the Friends of the Library, they will devise a plan for increased student participation in the Friends of the Library and carry it out in the fall.
