Student Focus Groups on Reference Services

Mentor(s): Cynthia Comer and Heather Smith

Department: Reference & Instruction Dept.

Aspects of librarianship related to the project: Reference services; Public relations

Number of openings: 1 or 2

Estimated length of project: 6-8 weeks

Hours/day: 1-2 hours/day

Dates available: June 24th - end of August, possible fall continuation

Preferred skills/knowledge: Good verbal communication skills; some familiarity with focus groups a plus, but not required.

Description:

The fellow(s) involved with this project will plan, conduct and evalutate focus groups with students on their attitudes/opinions/patterns of use regarding reference services. Mentors will provide guidance and readings on conducting focus groups, and the fellow(s) will design questions, recruit participants, conduct the focus groups, compile the feedback, and assess the results with the mentors.
