Additional comments: The amount of time involved in the

plan that is developed by the interns.
Description: This project will involve planning and implementing
increased student participation in the Friends of the Library.
For background, the intern(s) will survey other Friends of the
Library groups to determine the extent to which they draw on student
members and the ways in which they foster such participation.
They will also read literature on Friends of the Library organizations,
focusing in particular on the issue of student Friends membership.
They will then devise an overall strategy or plan for student
participation that may involve creating a "Student Friends of
the Library" organization that is closely affiliated with the
regular Friends of the Library group or they may decide to simply
work within the existing Friends context. If they decide on an
affiliated organization, they will clarify its purpose, decide
on what kind of organizational structure might be established,
develop a strategy for gaining members, and plan possible activities.
In the fall the interns would coordinate (perhaps by working in
cooperation with other interns who have not been involved in the
planning process) the actual process of implementing the Student
Friends initiative including the membership campaign, initial
meetings of the group, and specific activities.
