Tom Kelley
General Manager of IDEO
Tom Kelley (Oberlin class of ’77) is currently General Manager of IDEO, a 600-person global design and innovation firm that has been listed among the world’s 25 most innovative companies. During his time at the firm, Tom has led diverse parts of the organization, including marketing, business development, legal, human resources, and operations. In addition to other roles, he has written two best-selling business books, includingThe Art of Innovation, and co-authored an article on Creative Confidence with his brother David Kelley for the December issue of Harvard Business Review.
Tom works closely with IDEO friend and colleague Sungene Ryang (Oberlin class of ’93), who runs IDEO’s Tokyo office, which Tom visits frequently. He is the first-ever Executive Fellow at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and holds a similar role at the University of Tokyo. As a professional speaker, Tom shares stories with dozens of interesting client groups around the world each year, and has spoken in more than thirty countries.
