Professor Annemarie Sammartino

Annemarie Sammartino is Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Oberlin College. She received a B.A. in History from Rice University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in History from the University of Michigan. She is currently in the process of turning her dissertation into a book entitled Utopia and Exile: Migration and the Crisis of the Nation in Germany, 1914-1922. This book and her work more generally explore the crisis unleashed in Germany by the Russian Revolution, World War I and the post-war settlements through the lens of migration. Ms. Sammartino has additionally published articles on paramilitarism in post-World War I Germany and the Baltics as well as on the history of citizenship and asylum policy in Germany.

Ms. Sammartino teaches courses in the history of Modern Europe, Central European history, gender history, the history of migration, and European intellectual history.
