What to Give :: Life Insurance
This is the right gift for you if you:
- Would like to make a significant gift to Oberlin
- Would like to benefit from a charitable deduction during your lifetime
- Own a life insurance policy and no longer require its protection
This asset can be used to fund: An Outright Gift or Bequest.
This asset can be designated to: Area of Greatest Need; Scholarships; Professorships; Endowment; and the Conservatory.
You may transfer your life insurance to Oberlin by contacting your insurance company and naming Oberlin College the owner and beneficiary of the policy. This gift will generate a charitable deduction roughly equal to the cash surrender value of the policy on the date of the gift. You may take additional charitable deductions for the amount of any premium payments you subsequently make on Oberlin’s behalf. If you are considering purchasing a new life insurance policy for the benefit of Oberlin, please contact the Office of Gift Planning first to discuss whether this way of giving is most appropriate given your circumstances.
