Because tuition only covers 50 percent of the actual cost of educating an Oberlin student each year. The gifts that are made to the Alumni Fund help bridge the gap between what tuition provides and the College’s total operating budget.

Because learning happens everywhere at Oberlin. Gifts to the Alumni Fund help bring guest speakers and musicians to campus; create new internship opportunities; provide hands-on resources for all students; support the maintenance of current facilities; and allow Oberlin to build new classroom, research, performance, and studio spaces.

Because you are committed to an innovative academic model that creates connections between music, art, and the sciences.

Because corporations and foundations use alumni giving rates to measure alumni involvement. This number ultimately influences whether or not they commit their own financial support to a school.

Because college guidebooks such as Barrons, Fiske, and U.S. News and World Report use alumni giving participation rates to rank alumni satisfaction. To improve our overall institutional standing in these publications, Oberlin must increase its alumni participation rate.

Because it is effective. It would take an additional $120 million in the endowment to support what gifts to the Oberlin Alumni Fund provide each year.
