Oberlin Eliminates Loan Requirements for Incoming Class of Pell-Eligible Students
In keeping with its 175-year history of leading the way on access to an excellent liberal arts education, Oberlin College is eliminating loan requirements for incoming first-year students eligible for federally funded Pell Grants. The Oberlin Access Initiative will also eliminate loans for all current, Pell-eligible students returning to Oberlin in the fall, the College announced today.

I often turn to the Allen Memorial Art Museum’s Art Rental program when asked to explain Oberlin, and not just because I teach art history. For me, both the goal and the process are important. The goal, of course, is clearest: getting a great piece of original art to hang in your own room for a semester.

Football Kicks Off Season with a New Scoreboard
Two football milestones were achieved on September 1, 2007 when midway through a scoreless first quarter senior Michael Evans picked off a Case Western Reserve pass and ran it back 60 yards for a Yeomen touchdown. One, Evans’ interception return was Oberlin’s first touchdown of the 2007 season. And two, his score lit up a “6” on the brand-new Savage Stadium scoreboard, and it was the first game ever in which that had happened.

Philanthropist John N. Stern '39, one of Oberlin's most generous benefactors, is accustomed to giving gifts. This time, however, a gift has been given in his honor -the Ben J. Altheimer Charitable Foundation has donated $100,000 to Oberlin to endow a scholarship fund known as the John N. Stern Scholars Fund.
