Stewardship and Public Programs :: Recently Endowed Scholarships

The following is a sampling of scholarships that have recently been endowed. Over 700 endowed scholarships exist as a result of the generosity of generations of donors. Please note that scholarships are assigned as part of the normal financial aid process. No separate application is required.

The Patrick I. ’44 and Alva Abare Memorial Scholarship (2003)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students.
The Arleen Auger Endowed Conservatory Scholarship for Voice (2004)	Provides financial aid to gifted young vocal students with financial need.
The Geoffrey Blodgett ’53 Endowed Memorial Scholarship (2001)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving students majoring in History with a preference for students concentrating in American history or with an interest in architecture.
The Dana Brown Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving undergraduate or graduate students in the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, with preference given to organ students.
The Classes of 1984-1985-1986 Endowed Scholarship (2003)	Provides scholarship assistance to academically and financially deserving students.
The Classes of 1990-1991-1992 Endowed Scholarship (2003)	Provides scholarship assistance to academically and financially deserving students.
The Emma Lou Plummer Doershuk ’53 Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students majoring in psychology.
The Endowed Oberlin Double-Degree Scholarship (2005)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College double-degree students.
The Gene Featherstone ’55 Endowed Scholarship (2005)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin Conservatory of Music students who are majoring in organ.
The Karen Florini ’79 Endowed Scholarship for Environmental Studies (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students. It is the donors’ strong preference that the scholarship be awarded to first generation college students who show an interest in environmental studies and/or issues.
The Kathryn E. Gamble ’37 Scholarship (2003)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students, with a preference for those studying studio art, art history, or environmental studies.
The Allan E. Garb, M.D. ’51 Memorial Scholarship (2000/2004)	Provides scholarship support to academically and financially deserving students. It is the family’s preference that the scholarship be given to students who exhibit a talent in music and who have demonstrated depth of character and leadership as evidenced by his/her involvement in community and/or campus life.
The Ruth Lorena Harris Endowed Merit Scholarship (2003)	Provides scholarships to meritorious Oberlin Conservatory of Music students majoring in a string instrument, with preference given to violin students.
The Gail Heilman-Smith ’89 Scholarship (2005)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving students in the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
The Belinda L. Hodgkin Endowed Conservatory Scholarship (2005)	Provides financial aid to deserving students in the Oberlin Conservatory of Music majoring in piano with preference given to women students.
The Victor ’79 and Kathy Hymes Endowed Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to African American students in the College or the Conservatory who have full scholarship need.
The Loretta M. Kearns ’43 Endowed Scholarship for Conservatory Students (2003)	Provides music scholarships to students who are found academically and financially deserving by the administration.
The Kohn Family Endowed Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students.
The Robert T. Kretchmar ’40 Endowed Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students. It is the preference of the donors that the recipient demonstrates the same leadership and school spirit that Coach Kretchmar engendered in the students he mentored.
The Jewel Lafontant ’43 Endowed Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students.
The Vera Nash Locke Endowed Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students.
The Herbert G. May Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students.
The McGill Endowed Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students.
The Mead-Swing Family Scholarship (2003)	Provides scholarship assistance to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College or Conservatory students.
The Evelyn (Puddy) Oliver ’34 Scholarship (2002)	Provides scholarships to financially and academically deserving College and Conservatory students who are graduates of high schools in the United States, with a preference given to students who are no greater than twenty-one years of age upon entrance to Oberlin College.
The Paul Rheingold ’55 & Joyce Rheingold Endowed Scholarship (2003)	Provides financial support to an outstanding Oberlin College student who demonstrates financial need.
Dr. Henry A. and Dorothea ’36 Riedel Endowed Scholarship (2003)	Provides financial support to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students.
The Grady J. and Trevesta P. Robinson Endowed Scholarship (2003)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students.
The Grace Krick Sanford ’27 Endowed Scholarship (2003)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving students in the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
The Berwell B. Thomas Endowed History Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College history students in their senior year.
The Crilla B. Thomas Endowed Education Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving students in the Oberlin College Graduate Program in Teacher Education.
The Elmslie T. Thomas ’16 Endowed Geology Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College geology students, with first preference being given to geology majors in their senior year.
The Consuelo Lay Thwing ’17 Endowed Conservatory Merit Scholarship (2005)	Provides merit scholarships to undergraduate students at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music at the recommendation of the Director of Conservatory Admissions and with the approval of the Dean of the Conservatory of Music.
The Margaret Park Tobias & George H. Tobias Scholarship (2003)	Provides financial assistance to academically and financially deserving students with consideration given to students majoring in government, economics, political science or law.
The Charles W. Walton ’38 Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving students in the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
The Clarence Ward ’59 Endowed Scholarship (2004)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students majoring in art history.
The John C. Wilmot ’83 Endowed Scholarship (2005)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College or Conservatory students.
The Leura Younker ’32 Scholarship (2003)	Provides financial aid to academically and financially deserving Oberlin College students.
