"Almost every day I recognize some aspect of my Oberlin experience that still influences my life. Oberlin gave me a deep and abiding understanding of music, which has sustained me for 60 years; a respect for serious inquiry, which prepared me for Yale Graduate School and continues to influence my thinking; a lasting appreciation of literature and the arts; a respect for and appreciation of the wide diversity among individuals; and, perhaps most important, a loving wife whose influence, even after her death, continues. Somehow, in the midst of all this seriousness, my Oberlin years were simply FUN and provided me with memories that still make me smile. I'm simply giving a little back, so Oberlin can continue its work."
