"Given my career in academe, I suppose it seems only natural that I should support The Oberlin Alumni Fund. But I support Oberlin for some purely personal reasons, too. I loved all the cultural opportunities – especially the music! I'm also immensely grateful for the skills and perspectives I developed under the patient guidance of my professors. And then there's my wonderfully eclectic group of Obie friends, whose interests are as varied as their backgrounds, whose passions are as strong as their collective penchant for 'thinking outside the box,' and whose originality, imagination, and intellectual enthusiasm made sharing a campus with them a distinct privilege.

"The bottom line, though, is that I want to feel I'm doing my part to ensure that Oberlin remains as unique and independent minded as it always has been, so that each new generation of students is afforded the opportunities my classmates and I had – opportunities to learn, to be challenged, and to grow – within the fascinating and creative community that is Oberlin."
