Yes, there is actually a professor offering this challenge to younger alums. We have met him, talked with him, planned this whole website and mailing and everything else with his input. Why has he chosen to remain anonymous? Personally, we think it's so he could call himself Professor X and strike mighty poses in the mirror, but maybe we're just projecting here.

First and foremost, Professor X doesn't want this challenge to be about him. He's happy to be in a position to offer the challenge and offer a potentially significant donation to the school. But it's just a means to an end - the end being more young alums who understand the importance of giving to Oberlin and who do so as they can.
