Since the Professor's challenge is over, his email account is no longer in service. If you have any feedback or questions, or just want to get in touch, the Oberlin Alumni Fund (oberlin.fund@oberlin.edu) will be happy to respond or forward your email as needed.

If you have any questions about The Oberlin Alumni Fund, making a gift, or other, non-professorial concerns, get in touch with The Oberlin Alumni Fund staff at oberlin.fund@oberlin.edu or (800) 693 3167.

We'll be posting any interesting exchanges between alums and Professor X here on the website (minus personal contact information of course). For now, here are a few things Professor X has heard from former students over the years, and his counter arguments:

“I can’t afford to give.”
How can you afford not to? Your giving helps decide how Oberlin is seen by the outside world. Your degree is an investment, and your gift to Oberlin helps ensure your investment retains its value. If you stick a dollar in an envelope, and send it to Oberlin, I give $5 to The Oberlin Alumni Fund. Can you spare $4, one dollar for each year you were here? (Double degree student? That fifth dollar is optional – I’m pretty liberal with extra credit).

“I’ve already paid tuition.”
Did you know tuition only covers 55 percent of the cost of an Oberlin education? Even if you received no financial aid, alumni giving and outside funds supported you while you were here – can you give something back?

“I can’t give enough to make a difference.”
Let me be clear. It’s not all about naming buildings and truckloads of money. Every gift makes a difference to Oberlin. Giving something back is the point, and that’s why I’m doing this. If you love Oberlin (or even like it), stand up and be counted to give Oberlin a participation rate that truly reflects how much alumni appreciate Oberlin.

To paraphrase the great sage (was it Groucho Marx or Henny Youngman?), “Take my money, please!” Your gift can make a difference – let’s make that difference for Oberlin together.
