I chose to come to Oberlin when I learned that one of my favorite teachers graduated from here and told me he thought I would thrive in the political and academic atmosphere unique to Oberlin. Shortly following this conversation, I saw Julie Taymor's The Lion King, adored the puppetry work, learned that she was also an Oberlin grad and was completely sold on the school.

I am now a senior theater major and dedicate most of my time to that, though perhaps my favorite discovery about coming here was the chance to participate in everything. My freshman year I was part of a Bible study, I fenced in the afternoons, went swing dancing Saturday nights and walked in the arboretum several nights a week throughout the year, talking with friends.

My theater education here has also been extremely broad and all-encompassing. Between classes and productions, I have had the opportunity to act, build sets, hang light plots, manage production crews and direct. This environment is especially fantastic because students will pitch in for a show to which they have no immediate involvement. I have stayed in the theater well into the early hours of the morning, building, painting and focusing with others who are in for just a night to lend a hand – making the productions not only for theater students, but for visual artists, music majors and engineers.
