The Office of the Vice President for Development & Alumni Affairs serves the interests of Oberlin’s alumni, parents, and friends by maintaining close relationships with the donors and volunteers who help make Oberlin the special place that it is.
The Oberlin Fund is the annual giving program of the Oberlin College of Arts and Sciences and the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. Funds given to the College or Conservatory through The Oberlin Fund by alumni, parents, and friends are used during the year in which they are received to meet current needs. This support primarily includes scholarship support for current students, student life, and teaching and learning programs. The Oberlin Fund encourages support of Oberlin and educates potential donors about the importance of annual giving in sustaining Oberlin’s tradition of scholastic excellence, academic innovation, and musical artistry.
The Office of Leadership Giving works with Oberlin College alumni, parents, and friends to identify individual giving opportunities in excess of $25,000, which are typically received in the form of outright contributions through cash and securities, as well as five-year pledges over the duration of TheNew Oberlin Century campaign. Contributions of this nature have traditionally been designated by the donor for endowed support, both for faculty and students, and facilities projects.
Regional officers work with potential donors to gain a greater knowledge and appreciation of their giving interests and to inform them of specific program needs and naming opportunities.
The Office of Gift Planning is responsible for the deferred giving program, which includes bequests, charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities, and the pooled income fund. The office also handles all gifts of stock, tangible personal property, and real estate.
Staff members can provide information and customized proposals demonstrating the beneficial income and tax advantages of these gifts through mailings and meetings with individuals and/or their advisors. The staff travels frequently to meet potential donors to update them on College programs and activities, to learn about their giving interests, and to discuss deferred giving options.
The Office of Conservatory Development & Alumni Affairs works with alumni and friends of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music to share news of performances on campus and around the world and inform them of opportunities to support the faculty and students in lasting and personal ways.
