 How to Submit Your Work  

We're glad that you have an interest in showing your work at the Oberlin College Online Gallery. You can choose from six categories: photography, painting/drawing/print, installation/sculpture, performance, audio, and video/film.

You will need to:
  1. Provide us with the items in the "General items" and "Specific items" checklists:
  2. Get your work to us.

Specific instructions on both are provided below. If you have any questions about how to proceed, take a look at our sample page. If you still have questions after that, write us at gallery@oberlin.edu.


1. CHECKLISTS:

    GENERAL ITEMS FOR FIRST SUBMISSION:
    include in a text file the following:
  • Name
  • Academic year
  • Major
  • Home town and state
  • Phone number (kept confidential and only for contacting you)
  • Portrait
  • A 100- to 300-word artist's statement about the body of work that you are submitting to a specific category

    SPECIFIC ITEMS FOR EACH CATEGORY

    All digital images should be in TIFF, PSD, EPS, or high quality JPG (JPEG) format. If you're unsure of how to digitize your work, please contact us.

2. SUBMISSION

You may submit to more than one category. When you do decide to submit to multiple categories, you may want to submit a different artist's statement for each category of work. They can be written in any common text editing software: MS Word, Word Perfect, Simple Text, etc.

IMPORTANT: By submitting your work(s), you are giving Oberlin College permission to use your submitted work(s) within the context of the "Oberlin College Online Gallery" web site. Furthermore, you are guaranteeing to Oberlin College that you own all elements of your submitted work(s) or that the rightful owner(s) of any borrowed elements have expressly given you their permission to use each of these elements.

When you transfer your files to us, put all text and image files in one folder, and give the folder your name. After organizing the folder, here's how you can get your work to us from a Mac on campus:

    Instructions for OS 9
  1. Go to the "Chooser", under the "Apple" menu
  2. Click on "Appleshare" in the upper left box, chose "College Relations" in the "AppleTalk Zones" box, and "Online Gallery" where it says "Select a file server"
  3. Click "OK"
  4. Select "Registered User" and type "drop" into both the Name and Password fields
  5. Click "Connect"
  6. Double-click "gallery_drop_off"
  7. Open the drive "gallery_drop_off", which should now be on your Desktop
  8. Drag the folder containing all of your files into "Drag Into This Folder!" (PLEASE, for the sake of organization do not transfer multiple files unless contained in a folder)
  9. E-mail us at gallery@oberlin.edu to let us know that you've transferred the files
    Instructions for OS X
  1. Select "Connect to Server" under "Go" in the menu bar
  2. Select "Apple Talk"
  3. Select "College Relations"
  4. Double-click on "Online Gallery"
  5. Select "Registered User" and type "drop" into both the Name and Password fields
  6. Double-click "gallery_drop_off".
  7. Open the drive "gallery_drop_off", which should now be on your Desktop.
  8. Drag the folder containing all of your files into "Drag Into This Folder!" (PLEASE, for the sake of organization do not transfer multiple files unless contained in a folder)
  9. E-mail us at gallery@oberlin.edu to let us know that you've transferred the files
