All
of the works presented have been made over the past year and they
provide an adequate representation of some of the problems that are
of interest to me. A concise explication of these paintings would
serve little purpose, as it would limit interpretive possibilities
by reducing the works into a single meaning or coherent message. The
justifications and reasons for the work always comes later (after
they have been made), as Im not quite sure what it is Im
trying to accomplish from the onset. I usually decide that this intuitive
approach is legitimate. I wish my motives for the paintings could
be articulated more clearly though.
Anyhow, in general terms, the works seem to be an investigation into
the practice of painting. They often are an exposition of the ideals,
assumptions, and hopes associated with the conventions of painting.
Before I can begin to imagine different possibilities, I should thoroughly
take into account what I have inherited from the tradition of painting.
