I find photography to be among the most personal and revealing of
art forms. Looking at someones photographs, you are forced to
see the world through their eyes, to experience something of what
they have experienced. Unlike writing, sound, or other visual arts,
photography provides an image that is uncorrupted by memory or individual
perception. The viewer of the photograph becomes an extension of the
photographer his or herself, looking through the viewfinder of a camera
at the same things that have affected the life of the artist. Additionally,
on a personal level, photography has the power of immortalizing a
moment, a glance, an action, a place, even an emotion exactly as it
was. Ever since I first picked up a camera, this aspect of photography
has intrigued me and led me to believe that having someone look at
my photographs lets them into my mind, my memories, my experiences
and my life like no other medium can. |
