Perhaps the best compilation and categorization of its kind today, Oksana Dykyj's "Internet Resources for Film Studies" is especially useful for scholars. The site is organized into the following sections, each of which links to numerous sites that themselves do the same: 1. Specific Subject Guides (academic and popular guides to cinema topics on the web) 2. General Searchable Film Databases (film guides) 3. Libraries-Archives (studio, format, content-based and national library collections) 4. Museums (specific museums of film as well as museums with significant film collections) 5. Organizations/Associations (professional organizations of technicians, preservationists, scholars, and historians) 6. Copyright 7. Film Studies, History and Criticism (syllabi, scripts, topical and critical sites) 8. Specific sites (directors, films, special topics) 9. Censorship 10. National Cinemas (links to sites devoted to various national and continental traditions) 11. Video/laserdisc distributors (also includes DVD) 12. Technology (technical and historical information) 13. Publications (links to dozens of academic and popular sites and sources) 14. Performance Schedules (includes festival and television scheduling) 15. Miscellaneous (including how to cite and evaluate internet information) 16. Newsgroup access (discussion groups on all topics of cinema) 17. Related listservs based on L-Soft search (subscription only discussion groups, generally more scholarly than newsgroups) |
