FINDING BOOKS

OBIS is the on-line catalog of the holdings of Oberlin College's libraries. While most film titles will be found in Mudd, the Art Library and the Conservatory Library also have relevant titles in their collections.

Yves Montand and Charles Vanel make a harrowing journey in Henri-Georges Clouzot's Wages of Fear (1953).

David Bennent as Oskar Matzerah in Volker Schlöndorff's The Tin Drum (1979).

OhioLink is the on-line catalog of the holdings of many academic libraries in Ohio. Oberlin College users have borrowing privileges of most books and videos listed in OhioLink. Follow the prompts to have materials forwarded from other libraries to Oberlin, where they will be available at the circulation desk in Mudd.

WorldCat is a directory of the holdings of libraries worldwide.

The famed "dance of death" sequence in Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal (1957).

When using OBIS, OhioLink, and WorldCat, be aware that the subject headings for cinema-related titles vary. The most useful heading is "Motion Pictures." The subject headings "Film" and "Cinema" are less useful. Searches can be further refined by specifying a film genre (e.g. "comedy" or "film noir"), a national tradition (e.g. "motion pictures china"), or film mode (e.g. "motion pictures animation."

•To find films by a director, search for author.

•To find out if we have a particular film, search by title.

•To see a list of all the films we have in the AV collection, do a keyword search using "videorecording" as your search term. To refine your search you can limit by language, date, and/or combine other key terms from the same search screen. For example, searching for "videorecording and ital*" results in a list of films from or "about" Italy; further limiting the English language will reduce the list to just those films in English or with English subtitles. Remember that Oberlin users may also borrow films from the OhioLink network.
